KentuckyKicksAss.com // Kentucky for Kentucky’s been tasked to develop a viable brand and tag line for the great Commonwealth of Kentucky

It's been a great day in Kentucky For Kentucky land.
KentuckyKicksAss.com // Kentucky for Kentucky's been tasked to develop a viable brand and tag line for the great Commonwealth of Kentucky. Our goals are simple: increase tourism, attract new business, foster pride, diminish stereotypes, unify the commonwealth and distinguish Kentucky from any other place on the planet. Three easy steps. Step One - We talked to some of the coolest most admired, most kick ass Kentuckians (and a couple of non-Kentuckians). We even got a few celebrities in the mix. We asked them: how would you best describe Kentucky in a few words? From there a tag-line was born. Step Two - We partnered with Brian and Sara Turner of Cricket Press and went to work on turning this tag-line into a kick-ass logo. Step three - Turn up the volume and let the world know: KENTUCKY KICKS ASS. The Outcome - We documented the entire process. Special thanks to Governor Steve Beshear, Kentucky Department of Tourism, all the kick ass Kentuckians that participated in the interviews, Ian Friley of Kong Productions for filming and editing video, Natalie Baxter for filming, Brian and Sara Turner of Cricket Press for the logo design, Jason Kaufman for print design, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and George Clooney

Appalachian Troubadours | A wholesome Christian-based group

JoAnna has performed at Morgan County High School when i was teaching and coaching there.  She was and will always be one of my favorite singers.  You have come a long way JoAnna.  This article was for you.  Gary Holbrook

Richard Jett's Appalachian Troubadours is a group of young vocalists performing at various events, such as festivals, state parks, schools, health care centers, banquets and benefits with a range of music genres to include country, bluegrass, gospel, cajun, 50s & 60s and classic pop.

Established 1990 Richard Jett Productions

Richard Jett’s Appalachian Troubadours, a singing group of individuals, have been performing for over 20 years throughout Eastern and Central Kentucky. The Appalachian Troubadours are a wholesome Christian-based group performing at shows centered on morally acceptable themes, promoting family values, and music history education. Performances consist of a variety of music genres to include country, bluegrass, gospel, and 50/60’s. Members perform with CD tracks, provide background vocals, and at times use musical instruments as part of their performance. The Appalachian Troubadours perform through out the state of Kentucky at contracted state parks, festivals, benefits, and numerous other events through out the state. Performances consist of primarily individual solos, with occasional duets and group songs.

Christina Taylor Green | Don't forget her

We love you Christina. Nine years old and no longer alive. What did she do wrong? Just a little girl living her life as she saw it. Exploring the world and enjoying the things that inspire every little girl. From what i've read Christina was full of the things we all cherish about our lives. Love of animals, baseball and all the things little girls dream about for their future in America. Really i am not sure why, is anyone else? You see folks this old hillbilly has a little girl who is nine also, and i'm having a hard time figuring out the thought processes that are running the news media on this story of tragedy. Is it really about the politics of left and right? Maybe just maybe it is about a little girl who lost her life living the American dream. Being Christina Green on that fateful day. Just being Christina. Why can't we just remember her instead of gun control, how we can beat the other political party, Sarah Palin, and others. I prefer to remember Christina for the little girl she was. The rest of the talk should mean nothing to us. You see folks Sarah Palin or nobody else caused this idiot to start shooting. Jared Lee Loughner caused Christina to die. She is no longer here, except the memory we as Americans can have for this beautiful little girl. Please America, forget the politics, hatred, and absolute senselessness of figuring out who is to blame. Lets just remember Christina Taylor Green, who isn't here with us now, and learn from mistakes others make. I believe she would want it that way.

Christina as a dad i looked and looked for something in song to describe you. These videos are what i found for you hon. God bless Christina whom i never met, but a little girl who i think i know now.

GarysWorld 'Appalachia ' founder speaks about our land...da ol hillbilly

What is Appalachia nowadays.  Is it just a name ?  Who are these people in this mountain country including ol Gary?   For those of us that grew up here I think i am allowed to speak as one of these stupid redneck ignoramuses excuse the damn spelling.  Hell i went to school, and beyond, yet seems like people around this country still consider what i think is dumb.  Not those that know us.  Not our real friends.  But those who are supposed to know more than we do about this country.  Well by God i kinda ain't real happy about our country's direction here in Kentucky.  Who decides what is goin on.  That is a damn tough question for ol Gary, don't know bout everyone else.  Is it really about who is smarter, or is it goin further than that.  Is the English language really English, or is it something i got to do, cuz someone told me so.  When i get that knock on my door should i be scared, not knowing what it was i did.  When did America become England?  When did America become Europe?  When did we forget all the sacrifice and all the blood that was shed to keep us strong?  Hell someone gets their feelings hurt and the next thing is 'You're fired".  Guess we are gettin a little thin skinned around here.  Well from us ol Appalachian people i say we are sick and tired of excuses.  We may be real dumb, but stupid we ain't.  America we love ya, and it ain't gonna be easy to beat this country.
And yes by God, my name is Gary Holbrook from Appalachia.

Gary on 'GarysWorld Appalachia' to his friends thru the years

Wow!  Alot of years since da ol hillbilly started this little blog.  This morning i guess is like alot of others we live in our lives.  Ol Gary hasn't done much posting here in awhile.  With all the new tech and the fact that i have been so busy with my other stuff, i have neglected the thing on the internet that got this ol teacher and coach started.  'GarysWorld Appalachia' was my tomorrows 9 year old daughter's idea.  Lil Aisha and i were sitting around trying to think of a name for this crazy idea i had for an Appalachian blog title.  She said dad what about Gary's Appalachia.  You love your land so much that you should be a part of the title.  This from a little girl in 2005.  Thus with world this little blog was born.  And as my readers through the years already know, it was hard to go a day or two here, without the dumb ol hillbilly making changes to the front page.  Hell we had graphics, outlandlish music, stupid posts, and other things here that were just crazy.  Well da ol hillbilly kept gettin a few return visitors, and decided that he owned what he said and did, and one morning said to himself, 'what da hell i will do what i want to do here cause it's my shit'.  I worried about things like is there enough info for people to browse thru, just things like that really.  In fact last month or so i introduced Collecta and Ellerdale widgets here which i use on my main GarysWorld USA site.  Well it's like this they are still up here but i was wrong.  This should be about me and the past of Appalachia, because that is what i really enjoy about my land.  THE PAST.  So it is this simple.  If you still visit this blog from way back i'm back.  If you are new here good luck puttin up with me.  If you love Appalachia and what we are really about stick around.  Cause i have some things i may want to discuss in the future.  And most of it is because of a little 9 year old girl today who believed in her daddy, 'DA OL HILLBILLY NUFF SAID'.  Happy birthday Aisha.

Consolidating blog posts for GarysWorld 'Appalachia'

I have decided to limit the number of labels here even more for 2010.  Because of so many time constraints it is hard to produce numerous labels to post about at GarysWorld 'Appalachia'.  I feel like i have enough labels now to post under for the topics i enjoy putting up.  As my loyal readers here already know, we have thousands of links for visitors to find any infomation they need for research about our region of the country.

This setup on posting will allow this ol hillbilly to concentrate more on the things i really enjoy posting.

Thoughts about the past year

My son Myles receiving his Ky. law license

As 2009 comes to a close it is a good time to think back.

My son Myles made us all very proud last spring when he became a Kentucky lawyer.  He could have gone to many other places to work, but he chose Kentucky.
I made 3 trips out West this past year.  Two trips to Kansas City to visit with my daughter Aisha, and our annual bird hunting trip to Kansas for 2 weeks.  Over the years this ol hillbilly has made alot of great friends out West that i will always treasure.  They are alot like us ol hillbillies and their friendship is lasting.
We did some more work at our wildlife preserve this year, and it really looks great.  For training bird dogs, enjoying nature, and the solitude of the outdoors, it can't be beat.
Dad turned 86 in December and is still going strong.  He sure is one tough guy.
For those who have followed my blog here i thank you so much for the emails.  As i learned a long time ago on here you only are as good as your readers let you be.  It is hard to cover everything i want to on this blog, but the fun part is i can put on what i wish here.  GarysWorld USA and the forum take care of the rest.
I can't sign off without thanking my loyal helpers at the sites.  Amanda, Sarah, and Rhonda, you girls are the greatest.  How you put up with me sometimes is amazing.

Happy New Year everybody and may God bless the USA
Gary
